Nurses aid
More than 1,000 qualified nursing school applicants have unfortunately been turned away by the University of Nebraska College of Nursing in the last five years. “The shortage of nurses is not because there aren’t a lot of people wanting to come into nursing,” said Virginia Tilden, dean of the college. “The shortage is because of limited and aging buildings, overcrowded classrooms and a growing shortage of faculty because of the aging of the faculty.” On Oct. 13, UNMC will open a new building, the Center for Nursing Science, to help prepare more nurses for Nebraska. To reach its full potential, support is needed to add faculty and provide financial support for students.

The priority of the UNMC College of Nursing is to solve Nebraska's critical nursing shortage by accelerating its delivery of highly educated nurses equipped with the right knowledge, skill, and compassion for tomorrow's complex patient care.
